First United Methodist Church

Clinton MS

Kids Ministry

At Clinton First United Methodist Church, we believe in making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19), and that starts with our kids!

Through our Large & Small Groups, Programming, Milestones, and Kids Choirs, we want our kids to know Jesus, know they have gifts, and act on that.

Click the links below to learn about the different areas we are pinpointing to walk alongside our kids so that they learn through developmentally appropriate ways.

Large & Small Groups

Large and Small Groups are our times where leaders within the church are discipling our kids. These are our weekly times to engage and build relationships from a young age. This season of life is fundamental in Kids Ministry, and we are thankful for the leaders who say “yes” to investing in our kids.

Sunday School

For kids ages 3 years to 5th grade, this is a time for our kids to grow in community and in Christ. Starting at 10:00 AM on Sunday mornings, our kids are encouraged by Sunday School leaders who love kids! Our kids are hungry, and we want to equip them with a foundation to launch them forward into growing their faith.

Kids BLAST

Kids BLAST is for kids ages K-6th Grade. Our mission is to Believe, Learn, and Seek Truth (BLAST), and that is just what these kids are doing as they grow closer to God and others through music and weekly programming. Meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:00 PM, this time is spent learning more about Jesus and having a really good time doing it!

Kids Programs

Kids Programs is a time where we focus on building relationships and community. For kids, who learn and engage best through play, we host varying events throughout the year that allow them to have high-energy, intentional activities that build relationships in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Below are our annual events, but these are not the only things we do here! Stay tuned in to know what new things are arising in Kids Ministry.

Easter Eggspedition

Our annual Easter Eggspedition is a time where family teams work together to complete the challenge of finding their Easter Eggs. This is a fun event for our church families to achieve the Eggspedition Mission together!

Trunk-Or-Treat

This community event is a time for our families to use their creativity to decorate their trunks and for kids to fill their buckets! We have face painting, activities, food, and games. It is an awesome time to serve our community and church and make connections! This event is typically held the Wednesday prior to Halloween.

Rise Up With Jesus

At Rise Up With Jesus, families will explore surprising details about Jesus’ resurrection on that glorious Sunday morning 2,000 years ago. During this interactive event, families will experience the miraculous truth of what really happened that morning when Jesus conquered death. The sights, sounds, and smells of Easter morning will draw kids and families closer to God…and to each other! Hand-in-hand, they’ll journey through captivating stations that drive home one irresistible truth: Jesus is alive today!

Kids Night

For our church families, this is a 3-hour evening of fun where kids are hanging out, creating, watching a movie, and so much more. It is also a time where parents have 3 hours to do what they need to do get done! This is a registration event.

Vacation Bible School

During the summer, we have a jam-packed week of fun and Jesus where our kids get to worship, learn, and play. It is a time to hang out with each other and the community. Filled with large and small groups, kids have the opportunity to be exposed to God and His love for us all.

VBS is our largest volunteer-led program of the year. It takes over 80 adults and youth to create this opportunity for our kids in the church and community. If serving in this area is something you’re interested in, please contact the Director of Kids Ministry.

Mission

As a Kids’ Ministry, we want our kids to know they have God-given gifts and talents, and we desire to create opportunities for them to use them.
1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”. From day trips to small acts of kindness, we love creating space for our kids to serve God, the Church, and others.

Kids Milestone

As our kids grow older and taller, in wisdom and experience, they are also changing. As a church and ministry, we desire to walk alongside them in the ups and downs of those changes. We have events that mark milestones, and our hope is for those milestones to be stepping stones in knowing who they are, and most importantly, knowing who they are in Christ.

Infant Baptism

The United Methodist Church holds baptism as a sacrament. In a sacrament, God uses common elements – in this case, water – as a sign of God’s divine and prevenient grace. Baptism is administered by the church as the Body of Christ. It is the act of God through the grace of Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Clearly an infant can do nothing to save himself or herself, but is totally dependent on God’s grace, as we all are – whatever our age.

If you are interested in having your child baptized, please contact our Senior Pastor. We are excited for you and your family during this time, and we cannot wait to celebrate alongside you!

Blessing of the Backpacks

When the school year begins, as a church we love to circle around our students and teachers to pray over their year! In each service, the students and teachers are recognized, and they, their school year, and their backpacks (or binders) are blessed! Join us this year on Promotion Sunday in both the Traditional and Connection services to start off the school year well!

Nursery

For our birth–5 years kiddos, a nursery is provided. With paid staff & volunteers, we love hanging out with our littlest members of the family. For more information about the nursery, check out our packet for all the procedures, protocol, and information.

Confirmation

This is a time in your life that you get to know more about Jesus and the history of the United Methodist Church! Through Confirmation, the confirmands are presented with the Gospel & membership information. At the end of the process, kids have the opportunity to make two different informed decisions – following Jesus & becoming a member of the United Methodist Church.  We will have a good time through small group study, fun activities, relationships with mentors, and the Confirmation Retreat! The Director of Kids Ministry & Director of Youth Ministry will be co-leading, and they CANNOT WAIT! Confirmation meets on Sunday Mornings at 10:00 am in Room E203.

Third Grade Bible Presentation

Our kids are hungry here at Clinton First United Methodist Church! We as a ministry team want to equip them to continue growing in their faith both as a group and as an individual through studying the Bible. During the Fall of each year, we present to them their first full Bible from the church during both services.

Sunday School Promotion

As students jump into the new school year and move up in their grade, they move up in Sunday school too!

Kids Choir

From cultivating talents to encouraging creativity, we are continually expanding ways for our kids to get really excited about things they do. Joining Kids Choirs is one way to do just that.

Cherub Choir

Lead by our Music Director, our preschoolers are introduced to worship and leading worship through simple rhythms, melody making, and simple songs. These kids sure make a joyful noise to the Lord, and this is a fun-filled time of knowing Jesus through worship. Throughout the year, the Cherub Choir kiddos lead worship in both services. We love seeing these kids serve and share their gifts (and energy) beginning at such a young age.

Cherub Choir meets during the Sunday School hour as part of their weekly worship.
Children’s Choir for K-6th Grade meets on Wednesday nights as a part of the Kids BLAST weekly programming.

- Children’s Chime Choir

Children’s Chime Choir is an opportunity for our 1st  – 6th graders to be introduced to instruments and opportunities to lead worship.  This choir meets every Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in the balcony of the sanctuary. There is an emphasis on music theory and note reading. Kids have the opportunity to lead during the Traditions worship service.

Children’s Handbell Choir

Children’s Handbell Choir is an opportunity for our 1st – 6th graders to be introduced to instruments and opportunities to lead worship. This group meets every Wednesday at 4:15 PM in the balcony of the sanctuary. There is an emphasis on music theory and note reading. Kids will have the opportunity to lead worship during the Traditional worship service.

Kids R.O.C.K

Lead by volunteer Layne Allen, our 1st – 6th grade choir dives deeper into worship and worship leading.  Their mission is Reaching Out for Christ’s Kingdom (ROCK), and that is just what these kids are doing as they grow closer to God and others through music.  Meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in Room E308, this time is spent learning how to read and sing music, learning more about Jesus, and having a really good time doing it.  Like our Cherub Choir, these kids lead worship in both services.
