Take Off the Old, Put On the New — Christian Baptism

When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ. We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father. Romans 6:4 (CEV)

What Is Baptism?
When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ. Romans 6:4a

  • An outward and a visible sign of an inward and a spiritual grace.
  • A symbol of moral and spiritual cleansing.
  • A symbol of our passing from a life of sin and death into a life of holiness in Jesus Christ.
  • A sacrament to be taken seriously. Baptism marks our identity as followers of Jesus Christ and His way.
  • A means of grace for the whole church that marks us as members of the family of God.

Living Out Our Baptism.

We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father. Romans 6:4b

  • Baptism is not a “ticket to heaven.”
  • Our Baptism is to be lived out every day.
  • We are called to remember our baptism.
