July Sermon Series

CALLED: Go, Love, Listen, Pray
In this series, we read several stories in Luke’s Gospel that teach us what it means to be called a follower of Jesus Christ. We are called to Go, Love, Listen and Pray. Along the journey we find the ways to live in to our calling.

July 7 (Holy Communion)
Scripture: Luke 10:1-11, 16-20
Title: GO
Theme: Jesus commission 72 of his followers to GO! They are to proclaim the Good News and bring healing to the communities. He reminds them they will encounter difficulty (and even opposition). But, sending them out in pairs, we are taught we are not in this calling alone.

July 14
Scripture: Luke 10: 25-37
Title: LOVE
Theme: The famous parable of the Good Samaritan was a radical call to LOVE, not just being nice. Followers of Jesus are called to love across boundaries of race, class, and geography. Loving people we’d rather not is hard to do, which is precisely why Jesus makes it a command.

July 21
Scripture: Luke 10: 38-42
Title: LISTEN
Theme: Mary and Martha are disciples who have different strengths. Martha is a tremendous servant who is always busy at work. Mary sits at the feet of Jesus and listens to him teaching. Sometimes we are so busy serving Jesus, that we don’t take the time to listen to him. It doesn’t have to be either/or but we should always remember to LISTEN.

July 28
Scripture: Luke 11:1-13
Title: PRAY
Theme: Jesus gives his disciples a pattern of how to PRAY. We see in this pattern an expectation that we are called to daily prayer, forgiving prayer, and guiding prayer. Jesus calls us to prayer as a way of life.
