First United Methodist Church
At Clinton First United Methodist Church, we believe in making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19), and that starts with our kids!
Through our Large & Small Groups, Programming, Milestones, and Kids Choirs, we want our kids to know Jesus, know they have gifts, and act on that.
Click the links below to learn about the different areas we are pinpointing to walk alongside our kids so that they learn through developmentally appropriate ways.
Large & Small Groups
Large and Small Groups are our times where leaders within the church are discipling our kids here. These are our weekly times to engage and build relationships from a young age. These times are fundamental in Kids Min, and we are thankful for the leaders who say “yes” to investing in our kids.
For kids ages 3 years to 5th grade, this is a time for our kids to grow in community and in Christ. Starting at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings, our kids are encouraged by Sunday school Leaders who love kids! Our kids are hungry, and we want to equip them with a foundation to launch them forward into growing their faith.
Kids Worship is for kids ages PreK-2nd Grade. This is an opportunity for kids to engage in developmentally appropriate devotions & free play. It is offered most Sundays in both services. Dismissed during the service, they will have a Kids Worship Leader & Youth Leader engaging them in activities. This is in room E212.
Kids Programs is a time where we focus on building relationships and community. For kids, who learn and engage best through play, we throw varying events throughout the year that allow them to have high-energy, intentional activities that build relationships in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Below are our annual events, but these are not the only things we do here! Stay tuned in to know what new things are arising in Kids Min.
Our annual Easter Eggspedition is a time where family teams work together to complete the challenge of finding their Easter Eggs. This is a fun event for our church families to achieve the Eggspedition Mission together!
This community event is a time for our families to use their creativity to decorate their trunks to get kids attention and fill their baskets! We have face painting, activities, and games! It is an awesome time to serve our community and church and make connections! This event is the Wednesday prior to Halloween.
As a Kids’ Ministry, we want our kids to know they have God-given gifts and talents, and we desire to create opportunities for them to use them. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”. From day trips to small acts of kindness, we love creating space for our kids to serve God, the Church, and others.
Vacation Bible Camp
During the summer, we have a jam-packed week of fun and Jesus where our kids get to worship, learn, and play. It is a time to hang out with each other and the community. Filled with large & small groups, kids have the opportunity to get exposed to God & his love for us all.
Who: Rising Kindergarteners – Rising 6th Graders
Time: 8:30 am – 11:30 am
VBC is our largest volunteer led program of the year. It takes over 40 adults + 40 youth to create this opportunity for our kids in the church & community. If serving in this area is something you’re interested it, please contact the Director of Kids Ministry
PJs & Pancakes
For our church families, this is a 5 hour day of fun near Christmas where kids are hanging out, creating, watching a movie, and so much more. It is also a time where parents have 5 hours to do what they need to do to get ready for Christmas! This is a registration event, and registration begins in November.
This is a night of fellowship in our Family Life Building. As a congregation, we gather, share a meal together, and catch up on our week. During the meal, parents can pre-check-in their kids for Kids with Christ in the Gym. At 5:45 pm kids will be dropped off at the Pre-School playground & head to Kids Chat.
Kids Chat is a short devotion and connection time for our kids to interact with each other. This is in the Worship Center and led by Sarah Kate.
As our kids grow older and taller, in wisdom and experience, they are also changing. As a church and ministry we desire to walk alongside in the ups and downs of those changes. We have events that mark milestones, and our hope is for them to be stepping stones in knowing who they are, and most importantly, knowing who they are in Christ.
The United Methodist Church holds baptism as a sacrament. In a sacrament, God uses common elements – in this case, water – as a sign of God’s divine and prevenient grace. Baptism is administered by the church as the Body of Christ. It is the act of God through the grace of Jesus Christ and the work of the Hold Spirit.
Clearly an infant can do nothing to save himself or herself, but is totally dependent on God’s grace, as we all are – whatever our age.
If you are interested in having your youngest member baptized, please contact our Senior Pastor. We are excited for you and your family during this time, and we cannot wait to celebrate alongside you!
Third Grade Bible Presentation
Our kids are hungry, here at Clinton First United Methodist Church! We as a ministry team want to equip them to continue growing in their faith both as a group and as an individual through studying the Bible. During the Spring of each year, we present their first full Bible from the church during both services.
Sunday School Promotion
As students jump into the new school year and move up in their grade, they move up in Sunday school too! This year, Sunday school promotion is happening on August 2nd! They will check in at the welcome station in the Education Building, and be escorted to their new class alongside their parent to meet their first teacher this year!
“Parenting Your” Phase Guides consist of an 18-part series of concise and interactive guides that simplify what parents need to know about each phase of a kid’s life and gives them the opportunity to discover more about their children—so they can make the most of every phase.
The Phase Project, including these guides, is a synthesis of personal experience, academic research, and gatherings of leaders and educational experts from across the child development spectrum.
For our birth – 2 years kiddos, a nursery is provided. With paid staff & volunteers, we love hanging out with our littlest members of the family. For more information about the nursery, check out our packet for all the procedures, protocol, and information. Nursery drop off is in E211.
This is a time in your life that you get to know more about Jesus and the history of the United Methodist Church! Through Confirmation, the confirmands are presented with the Gospel & membership information. At the end of the process, kids have the opportunity to make two different informed decisions – following Jesus & becoming a member of the United Methodist Church. We will have a good time through small group study, fun activities, relationships with mentors, and the Confirmation Retreat! The Director of Kids Ministry & Director of Youth Ministry will be co-leading, and they CANNOT WAIT! Confirmation meets on Sunday Mornings at 10:00 am in Room E203.
Blessing of the Backpacks
When the school year begins, as a church we love to circle around our students and teachers to pray over their year! In each service, the students and teachers are recognized, and they, their school year, and their backpacks (or binders) are blessed! Join us this year on August 5th in the Traditional and Connection services at 10:00 am to start off the school year well!
From cultivating talents to encouraging creativity, we are continually expanding ways for our kids to get really excited about things they do. Joining Kids Choirs is one way to do just that.
Lead by volunteers Anna Prestwood & Russell Yates, our 4 & 5 year olds are introduced to worship and leading worship through simple rhythms, melody making, and simple songs. These kids sure make a joyful noise to the Lord, and this is a fun-fill time of knowing Jesus through worship. Through the year, the Cherub Choir kiddos lead worship in both services. We love seeing these kids serve and share their gifts (and energy) beginning at such a young age.
Cherub Choir meets on Wednesday Nights from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm following Wednesday Night Supper. They meet in Room E212.
- Children’s Chime Choir
Children’s Chime Choir is an opportunity for our 1st – 6th graders to be introduced to instruments and opportunities to lead worship. This choir meets every Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in the balcony of the sanctuary. There is an emphasis on music theory and note reading. Kids have the opportunity to lead during the Traditions worship service.
Lead by volunteer Layne Allen, our 1st – 6th grade choir dives deeper into worship and worship leading. Their mission is Reaching Out for Christ’s Kingdom (ROCK), and that is just what these kids are doing as they grow closer to God and others through music. Meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in Room E308, this time is spent learning how to read and sing music, learning more about Jesus, and having a really good time doing it. Like our Cherub Choir, these kids lead worship in both services.
