Music Ministry

The purpose of the Music Ministry at First Methodist is to lead the congregation into an atmosphere of worship through the medium of music.  A secondary purpose is to help train people musically and give these individuals an opportunity to give back to the Lord and His church through the use of their musical talents.

Choirs, Orchestra and Handbells

We have eleven different musical groups for people of all ages, preschool through senior adult.  There are grade-level singing choirs for children, adults, and senior adults, as well as handbell choirs for all ages.  In addition to these groups, there is also a church orchestra. These groups all share one common goal: to enhance the worship experience of the congregation and to help lead people into the presence of God.

The annual activities in the music ministry include seasonal offerings from the Adult Choir and Orchestra.  The Children’s Choirs also present two musical programs each year, one during Advent and one in the spring. Each spring, we also feature all of our handbell choirs in a combined concert.  In addition to these events, there are full length musical services for Hanging of the Greens and Choir Dedication Day.

Other musical observances include special musical offerings for All Saints Day, Veterans Day, Independence Day, and other special days throughout the year.  Each choir also sings or plays on other Sundays during the year.  We also host concerts by other youth or college choirs occasionally, as well as attend handbell workshops with children and adult groups.  It is our goal to provide a well-rounded music ministry that provides for the needs of our congregation and challenges them to grow both spiritually and musically.

The Psalms teach us to make a joyful noise to the Lord.  We should also give our very best to Him in the process.  These are both aims of the music ministry of First Methodist.  Please call the church office (601-924-6671) for more information.
